Students have big dreams for their futures, but too often they graduate high school unprepared for the demands of college and career. We know that postsecondary readiness isn’t accessible to all; inequity existed before the pandemic, and the pandemic has exacerbated gaps. Student performance on college entrance exams has been declining in the last decade, and the ACT score for the class of 2022 was a 19.8, the lowest average score in over 30 years. Among the 2022 graduating class, only a staggering 22% of students met all four ACT college readiness benchmarks, while 42% of students met none of these benchmarks at all.
